Water Levels Dropping On Joseph Creek Friday

Cranbrook, BC (June 10, 2011) – City of Cranbrook staff will continue to monitor local creek and stream levels today.   However, water levels are down as much as 6 inches today on Joseph Creek and at Idlewild Lake after no rain fell and cooler temperatures prevailed overnight; the same expected through the day today.

Water began to creep over the banks of Joseph Creek in some locations overnight Wednesday and crested Thursday.

Residents are still strongly encouraged to stay away from the creeks and streams, as levels remain high and water is still moving fast.   Parents are urged to discuss with their children the dangers of fast moving water and advise them to also stay away.

Public Works and Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services will continue to monitor levels through the weekend.   Staff is confident water levels will continue to drop, as Environment Canada is only forecasting a total of 5 to 10 mm of rain by late Monday.

City staff will continue to work through the local radio, newspapers, television and the City’s website to provide the latest details and updates as the situation changes.
