RecPlex History
|
 |
In
1993 a Society was established because of a recognized need
in our community for a new recreational facility. Over 5000
signatures where gathered supporting this decision. The
society retained experts with respect to capital and
operational costs of a new facility and many alternatives
where reviewed. After many hours of research and meetings,
the Society concluded that the most affordable approach was
a public-private model.
The arrival of the Kootenay Ice, WHL hockey
team, as the major tenant of the RecPlex, the project was
now feasible. The proposal to build an ice arena and aquatic
center was the focus of a referendum, which was held in
February 1999. The Cranbrook Recreational Complex is a
testimonial to the vision and dedication of the Society and
the thousands of hours contributed by hundreds of
volunteers. |

The Cranbrook RecPlex was a project estimated at

the first hockey game between the Kootenay Ice and Regina
Pats. The Grand Opening ceremony and concert, with Bryan
Adams, was on December 5, 2000. The Pool was proudly opened
on January 30, 2001 with many excited and enthusiastic
